Limited run of a comic zine with lyrics from the album Orchid as well as a prose poem by Corey Parlamento. The drawings (graphite on paper, made by Mary Moore Dalton in Feb 2024) are not only a visual narration of the lyrical content but a further exploration of the emotional space beyond the music. They are an attempt to give some form to real and imagined personal histories as well as a container for a conversation between two artists. Thanks to Matt for the painting on the cover and to Saige for the layout design. All proceeds will go to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

Orchid 04:22
Hand on the orchid Bad things have happened here Good things have happened here Hand in your hand now I used to fear this hand Now I can cradle it Genuine Hand and the orchid gone Now I must carry on Further and further Gather my body up From where I find myself And look for a blooming in The distance Keep your eyes on the widow light Still Be Still There’s no better time I miss you more than I ever thought

Someday 03:33
Sunday is a falling day for the gods of no ambition The heaven of the morning drifts away. You are slumped in to a chair in all your visions of tomorrow I hear the devil debriefing the day Take what you can In the kitchen it is crashing it is burning it is drowning The bells are always tolling in the air Your body is a nail pinched in the finger of the crown The hammer is forever falling down Take what you can But, someday

about

I think of this as a full album even though it only contains three songs. The omission of any additional songs that would make this what typically qualifies as a traditional full album of say, ten songs, is due to the fact that there was nothing more for me to communicate at this period of time and their absence should be taken as an intentional silence. In fact, you should just imagine that there are ten songs here to listen to and that seven of them are just the empty space born from an unwillingness (or inability) to say anything else.

Orchid is a song based on a photograph that I found of myself as a child holding on to the branch of an orchid that my mom grew. The painting for the album cover, painted by Matt Reed, was inspired by that photograph. I am hesitant to talk about the more personal details of what inspired the song and hope that those details will become apparent to the listener naturally.

Storm Variation is an extension of an instrumental guitar composition called Squall that I released a couple years ago. I wanted to rewrite it as something I could play all at once instead of overdubbing different guitar parts. It is a meditation on the storms that I grew up listening to as a kid growing up in South Florida. If you look out of the window of the painting you will see the environment in which the song is situated.

Someday is a song inspired by the thought of no longer having to go to a job.
