"Island of Wire" is the second release from the collaboration between Asheville NC based musicians Mike Johnson and Corey Parlamento and it is their first under the name Thought Relief. Like CRO$$, their last work via Constellation Tatsu Records, Island of Wire was created in response to images. Instead of photographs, they used an experimental film created by Parlamento to help guide the direction of the music. They limited themselves to only four instruments: electric guitar, pedal steel, modular synthesizer, and a tape machine to create the many sounds and textures of the album. It was recorded live during a performance and screening of the film at the Grail Movie House in Asheville, NC.

The album, like the accompanying film, alludes to a fictional island somewhere between the past and the present that is connected to the greater world by a mysterious transmission delivered by a network of wires. Part one depicts memory and dreams being projected from the comfort of the island. Part two begins with a transmission received from a distant land that serves as a vague warning of things to come or maybe things that have already happened and ends with the glimmer of hope that the island provides.
